Plus, washing all that junk off in the laundry room doesn't sound appealing to me either. • Elon Musk’s Ex-Wife on How Elon Musk Achieves His Extreme Success

    Fikri Rasyid
    20 Apr 2015 | 5:57 pm
The question is “How can I be as great as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Richard Branson?“. You can read Justine Musk’s (Elon’s ex-wife) answer here. Here’s my favourite part of the answer: Extreme success results from an extreme personality and comes at the cost of many other things. And this: Be obsessed. If you’re not obsessed, then stop what you’re doing and find whatever does obsess you. And this: Follow your obsessions until a problem starts to emerge, a big meaty challenging problem that impacts as many people as possible, that you feel…

As featured in FRV Bali We recently had the pleasure of welcoming Sabrina Van Clef Ault at Alila Manggis where the the following photographs were shot. Here’s what FRV Bali had to say about their interview with her. Sabrina Van Cleef Ault was born in California to Korean and Scottish parents and grew up in Seattle, USA. At the age of 19 she moved to New York City and resided there for 15 years working in fashion, television and entertainment, including the first of one of her many nightclubs, under the name of  Pangaea, alongside her partner and husband nightlife guru, Michael Van…

Story by Shruti Desai and photography by Love Dope Studios I always wanted a beach wedding and where else but Goa would be a perfect destination for our wedding. Plus Abhishek and I are both beach lovers and love Goa. From the moment we walked into Alila Diwa Goa we knew this is where we wanted to host our wedding celebrations since the place had the traditional look and the luxury that we wanted for our guests. The amazing layout of the place gave us the opportunity to host pre wedding functions at different locations within Alila Diwa Goa.That meant getting a different look and feel for…
  • A Sweet Friendship with Alila Villas Uluwatu

    Dewi "Dee" Lestari Simangunsong
    6 Apr 2015 | 6:35 pm
Story and Photographs by Dewi Lestari On our 6th wedding anniversary, Reza and I got the opportunity to have a short vacation at Alila Villas Uluwatu (actually for our family, with two children and the youngest being 5 years old, going on a vacation for 3 days and 2 nights is actually VERY LONG). To be honest, I didn’t really have any kind of expectations on the resort at first.  We even thought about planning to go for a half day trip to Ubud, looking for a place to eat at Jimbaran, and other things to do.  We were clueless about the magic that awaited us. There are those places that are…

Story by Mihir and Deepti and photography by Nitesh Square Photography Our story could be something from a Bollywood movie! We first met through a mutual friend in London where we enjoyed each other’s company over lunch. With Mihir living in Mumbai and me living in Zurich we both returned home with happy memories thinking nothing more of it. A few months passed by and we made contact with each other through social media. From then on we kept in touch with the odd message here and there which turned into regular chatting and phone calls! Mihir eventually flew into Zurich for our first date…

    23 Mar 2015 | 10:54 pm
Story and Photographs by Rhiannon Taylor from In Bed With The long drive up in to the hills to Ubud, my reliable car sickness overwhelming me, I was really looking forward to the end of my Bali tour. Keen to escape the busy crowds of Seminyak, tourist markets and the never ending strip of same-same resorts, I anticipated Alila Ubud like water in the desert. Driving through Ubud, a small town which is known for its exquisite cuisine, resorts are many but far between. Turning in to the long driveway, passing rice fields and chilli plants, you arrive at a divide in the Ubud valley, which is…

  • Weekend Wanderlust: Exploring the mysterious Goa Gajah Temple

    Cezanne
    10 Apr 2015 | 2:31 am
It’s almost the weekend and that means it’s time to get outside and explore the great unknown! Or in our case, the less developed, unpopulated side of Bali. Come along and follow the Bali Reporter as she goes where no Bali Reporter has gone before… Given that Bali’s population is 90% Hindu, there are of course hundreds of temples (pura in Balinese) to explore while on the Island of the Gods. Though I like to think I’ve been to my fair share of temples here, in reality the number is not so high and I’m determined to step up my game. That’s why this weekend we are…

  • Finding Happiness in Bali

    Richard Holmes
    20 Apr 2015 | 4:56 pm
Happiness in Bali seems to come easily. At least that’s the way you feel after you’ve spent a little time here. For starters, there just seems to be a different slant on life. The people who live here take a simple approach to existence based on a kind of selective optimism. It’s a simple idea that involves choosing to focus on the positive rather than the negative in each situation. In essence, this approach to living is based upon deciding how you perceive daily events. Either you see your world for its problems or try to focus on everything that’s good in life. Essentially, given…
  • Beauty and aesthetics – treatments in Bali

    Katya Kasatkina
    19 Apr 2015 | 3:01 pm
Bali is the island of semi-naked bodies, tousled beach hair and sun-kissed makeup-free skin. It may seem that all that effortless natural beauty is just handed to you by the hot sun and salty ocean. However, the experts know very well that a natural healthy glow actually takes quite an effort. The tropical sun can give you a great tan and highlights, but also dark spots and brittle dry hair. Motorbike riding grants you an amazing sense of freedom, but the air pollution on the heavy trafficked roads will make your skin look dull and reward you with pimples and blemishes. But worry not – we…
  • The future of tourism in Lombok

    Brittany Webster
    15 Apr 2015 | 3:02 pm
Lombok is a tourist destination that has often fallen in the shadow of its close neighbour, Bali. However, recently the region has been examined for the potential to emerge as a prominent tourist destination in the near future. A report published by Horwath HTL looks at the critical factors for the future success of Lombok’s tourism industry, particularly in the hotel and resort sector. One of the most important things to first do is to examine Lombok as a region in order to determine its strengths and weaknesses for hotel and resort development. The Horwath HTL report does this by breaking…

On TripAdvisor you can read hundreds of rave reviews about Bali Asli and their cheerful executive chef Penelope Williams. Among the few critics is an expat who has lived in Bali for several years. She describes the restaurant as a place for naive tourists and her advice is to get far less expensive but good Balinese food at a local warung. There’s no accounting for taste and it’s certainly not cheap, so why would you go to Bali Asli? Let’s find out! The mighty Mount Agung towers over Bali Asli and the view is simply stunning. Each year, the island of Bali is imprinted by the footprints of over 7.2 million human beings. About 4.2 million of them are locals and about 3 million of them are foreign tourists. Despite all the commonalities and differences between these beings, one thing is for sure: they all have a different Bali story. Who they are, what they love, and what they see. In our series, From The Lens, we showcase the galleries of individuals who have stepped behind a lens and snapped Bali through their eyes. From a local grom with a disposable camera, to a professional with the latest DSLR, with every Tom,…
